Approximately 2 million baked goods sold nationwide, including doughnuts and coffee rolls available at Dunkin’, were recalled in January due to potential listeria contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Details of the Recall
The recall, issued by manufacturer FGF Brands, involved products made before December 13, 2024. The FDA published an enforcement report on February 5, 2025, confirming that the recall had been in effect since January 7, 2025. However, no press release was issued at the time.
The affected baked goods included various chocolate, raspberry, and Bavarian cream doughnuts, French crullers, éclairs, and coffee rolls.
Company Response and Safety Measures
FGF Brands emphasized that the recall was completed in early January following findings at one of its U.S. doughnut production facilities. Importantly, no food products tested positive for listeria, and doughnuts currently available on the market are safe to eat.
Understanding Listeria Risks
Listeria is a serious foodborne pathogen and the third-leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While most people who consume contaminated food do not become ill, certain groups — including pregnant women, infants, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems — face a higher risk of severe illness or death.
The CDC estimates that listeria infects about 1,600 Americans each year, leading to approximately 260 deaths.
