Perdue Foods is recalling more than 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders following reports from customers who found metal wire embedded in the products.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and Perdue announced that the recall affects specific lots of three products: Perdue Breaded Chicken Tenders, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets, and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets.
According to FSIS and Perdue, approximately 167,171 pounds of these products may be contaminated with foreign material. This action was taken after receiving customer complaints, with Perdue identifying the material as a thin strand of metal wire that was inadvertently introduced during the manufacturing process. The company is recalling all impacted packages as a precautionary measure.
As of now, there have been no confirmed injuries or adverse reactions associated with these products. However, FSIS is concerned that the recalled items may still be in consumers’ freezers.
Consumers can identify the affected products by checking the product codes listed on Perdue and FSIS’s online notices. The impacted items have a best-if-used-by date of March 23, 2025, and establishment number “P-33944” on the back of the package. These products were distributed nationwide.
Those who have purchased the recalled chicken are advised to discard the items or return them to the place of purchase. Perdue is offering full refunds to affected consumers and has provided a contact number, 866-866-3703, for any inquiries.
Foreign object contamination remains a leading cause of food recalls in the U.S., with similar incidents involving metal pieces leading to recalls by other companies, such as Tyson Foods, which recalled nearly 30,000 pounds of chicken nuggets last November.
