Jool Baby has initiated a recall of more than 63,000 infant swings, citing potential suffocation risks. The swings, marketed and sold at Walmart stores and various online platforms, including Jool Baby’s own website, lack appropriate warnings regarding infant sleep safety and have an incline angle exceeding federal regulations.
The affected product, known as the Nova Baby infant swing, was manufactured between June 2022 and September 2023. It can be identified by its gray color, approximately 28 inches in length, 19 inches in width, and 24 inches in height, featuring a round aluminum base with music buttons, a metal seat frame, cloth seat with restraints and headrest, and a canopy adorned with hanging toys.
Consumers who purchased these swings are urged to cease using them for sleep immediately. Jool Baby is offering a free repair kit, which includes updated instructions, on-product warnings, a new remote control, and non-sleep-themed hanging plush toys. Registration for the repair kit can be done at www.JoolBaby.com/recall.
Despite no reported injuries or fatalities associated with these swings, they raise concerns similar to those prompted by inclined sleepers, which were banned over a year ago following numerous infant deaths. This recall underscores the importance of adhering to safe sleep practices recommended by public health officials, such as placing infants on their backs in cribs or bassinets without blankets, stuffed toys, pillows, or bumpers.
This incident follows previous recalls of infant products linked to safety hazards, including a baby pillow associated with multiple deaths and the Fisher-Price Rock’n Play Sleeper, which was recalled after being connected to approximately 100 infant fatalities. These events serve as critical reminders for caregivers to prioritize the safety of infants during sleep and product usage.
